Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that if the International Criminal Court (ICC) issues an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, they will be obliged to implement it. Eide made these remarks to the Norwegian press regarding the ICC's application for an "arrest warrant" against Netanyahu and Gallant. Eide indicated that if an arrest warrant is issued by the ICC and they come to Norwegian territory, they will have to arrest Netanyahu and Gallant, and the same procedure will apply to the Hamas leader for whom the ICC has applied for an arrest warrant. Eide also noted that the same practice applies to other European countries. Furthermore, Norway became the first European country to announce that it would arrest Netanyahu if an arrest warrant is issued by the ICC. ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan had announced on May 20 that he had applied for an "arrest warrant" for Netanyahu and Defense Minister Gallant. According to the ICC's statement, Khan had also applied for an "arrest warrant" for Hamas Political Bureau Chairman Ismail Haniyeh, Hamas leader in Gaza Yahya Sinwar, and the leader of Hamas' military wing, Mohammed Deif.
